Tulpenrallye 2005

The story of 2005: Het succes-concept met de start van de Tulpenrallye in het buitenland wordt gecontinueerd. Uitzetters Adrie Brugmans en Jaap Daamen ontdekken tijdens hun zomervakantie St. Nectaire als geschikte startplaats. Het dorp ligt midden in een prachtig rally-gebied. De faciliteiten zijn enigszins beperkt, maar de 169 deelnemers die aan de start verschijnen zijn van harte welkom op zondag bij de cocktailparty in het Mercure hotel. Op maandagmorgen rond half acht, zit bij sommige auto’s ijs op het dak en de ramen. Het is –1 graden. Het belooft een prachtige dag te worden. Saint-Nectaire ligt op 950 meter hoogte, en na slechts 4 kilometer rijden gaan de eerste wegen al bergopwaarts. Iets verder voert de route langs de grotwoningen van Jonas. Het verkrijgen van de ontheffingen voor het rijden van de Tulpenrallye over de openbare weg in Frankrijk is een tijdrovend proces voor de organisatie en wordt steeds uitdagender. Om de autoriteiten te kunnen laten zien dat de organisatie serieus omgaat met de voorwaarden die de overheid stelt, wordt er voor het eerst onderweg een snelheidscontrole met een lasergun gehouden. Dit blijkt goed te werken. Enkele overtreders worden bestraft en alle andere deelnemers zijn gewaarschuwd. De routes op de eerste dagen voeren door de Auvergne en de Ardêche en de deelnemers zijn onder de indruk van de prachtige routes. Nieuwe regio’s brengen ook nieuwe etappe-plaatsen. Er wordt overnacht in Vals-les-Bains, Vichy, Avallon en Compiègne. In Avallon houdt de politie ’s avonds onaangekondigd een snelheidscontrole. Alle deelnemers houden zich keurig aan de snelheid. Op vrijdag verblijven de deelnemers in Gent in België en de route van de laatste dag loopt opnieuw via Zeeland naar de finish in Noordwijk. Op weg naar de finish wordt op het eiland Tholen nog een onverwachte regelmatigheidsproef met een bijzonder reglement verreden. Bij de finish op het parkeerterrein van Grand Hotel “Huis ter Duin” is meer publieke belangstelling dan ooit tevoren. Onder een stralende zon, en met windkracht 5, worden de deelnemers ontvangen met Moët & Chandon champagne, La Tulipe wijn, tulpen en haring met Corenwyn. Dit alles gezellig en muzikaal omlijst door een optreden van de “Big Band Bollenstreek”. Bert Dolk en Erwin Berkhof met hun Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint uit 1959 schrijven, evenals in 2004, deze Tulpenrallye op hun naam. In een spannende strijd over zes dagen tussen 8 en 14 mei en over ruim 2300 kilometer zijn zij de concurrentie te slim af. Hoewel de voorsprong op de laatste dag duidelijk terugloopt, zijn zij over het gehele evenement de sterkste. Voor bestuurder Bert Dolk is dit de vierde overwinning in een Tulpenrallye, waarmee hij het record van John Bosch, gevestigd in de ’80 er jaren, evenaart. Voor navigator Erwin Berkhof is dit de tweede overwinning in de Tulpenrallye. De tourklasse wordt gewonnen door Sijbrand en Taco van der Mast, eveneens met Alfa Romeo (Giulietta der 1959).
