Tulpenrallye 1995

The story of 1995: Vanzelfsprekend wordt er voortgeborduurd op het succes van vorig jaar. In 1994 wilde de organisatie nog slechts gebruik maken van één hotel onderweg, omdat men niet goed kon inschatten wat de verplaatsingen en het boeken van hotels in verschillende plaatsen tot gevolg zou hebben. Omdat dit in 1994 allemaal voorspoedig is verlopen, wordt dit jaar besloten om de route langer te maken en in verschillende plaatsen onderweg te overnachten. Daarnaast wordt besloten om terug te keren naar het gebied waar veel Tulpenrallye’s zijn verreden: de Franse Vogezen. De rally wordt daarom ook één dag langer en er wordt nu al op woensdag gestart; de finish blijft gepland voor de zaterdag. Noordwijk fungeert vanzelfsprekend opnieuw als start- en finishplaats, terwijl de rally ook weer wordt verreden volgens de reglementen van de FIVA. Een gedeelte van het routeboek is direct overgenomen uit één van de edities uit de jaren zestig. Inschrijving staat open voor auto’s die voor 1972 zijn gebouwd en er wordt opnieuw gereden in een sportklasse (113 deelnemers) en een toerklasse (70 deelnemers). Belangrijke buitenlandse inschrijvingen zijn Nicky Porter en Andrew Bodman (Mercedes 220 SE), winnaars van de Monte Carlo Challenge in 1994, en Ron Gammons-Jane Bourne (MG-B), winnaars in Monte Carlo in 1995, de Denen Andersen en Friborg (Tulpenrallye winnaars in 1994), Mike Cornwell (Porsche 356), de Fransman Diacono (Austin Healey) en de Belgen Willy Potjans (BMW) en Roger Munda (Porsche 911). De Nederlandse delegatie bestaat onder meer uit Maus Gatsonides en André Jetten, ditmaal met een replica van de Ford Zephyr waarmee Gatso de Monte Carlo rally in 1953 heeft gewonnen, Renger Guliker, samen met dochter lngeborg, met Fiat 1600S, en Eddy van den Hoorn – René Smeets met de Volvo 1225. De oudste auto’s zijn de Lagonda 2L (1929) van Macko Laqueur en de Alvis Tourer (1939) van Bob Meijer. Na de technische keuring in Noordwijk op dinsdag en een ontvangst daarna door de burgemeester van deze plaats, waarbij tevens de oprichting van het Historic Rally Team Holland wordt aangekondigd, rijden de deelnemers op woensdag over 500 km van Noordwijk naar Arlon (bekend uit de historie van de rally en in de moeilijke jaren zeventig enige malen het keerpunt van de rally). Op donderdag bereiken de equipes de Vogezen, waar in Turckheim wordt geluncht. Hierna volgt een inspannende etappe door de Vogezen, waarin beroemde trajecten uit vorige rally’s zijn opgenomen en de deelnemers rijden over zowel de Petite Ballon als de Grande Ballon d’Alsace. Vanwege langdurige sneeuwval in de laatste weken voor de rally moet dit traject worden aangepast. De route door de Vogezen wordt door de deelnemers ervaren als het zwaarste traject uit de rally. Als zij terugkeren in Turckheim is het al donker. Op vrijdag loopt de route naar Duitsland, waarbij voor de finish in Adenau op een gedeelte van de Nürburgring nog een speciale etappe wordt verreden. Via Arnhem, Druten en Beneden-Leeuwen rijdt de karavaan op zaterdag terug naar de finish in Noordwijk. Van den Hoorn laat op de eerste dag direct weten dat hij gaat voor de overwinning en staat met slechts 52 punten aan de leiding in het klassement. Op de tweede dag rukken Andersen en Friborg op in het klassement van een achttiende naar een tweede plaats, terwijl Willy Potjans en Piet van Dieten op de derde dag van de achtste naar de tweede plaats in het klassement stijgen. De vierde dag is tamelijk simpel en levert voor vrijwel, niemand nog problemen op. Alleen Antoon aan de Stegge valt nog uit de top-20 wanneer hij de motor van zijn auto opblaast. Loek de Rooij en Peter Bezemer rijden de rally uit met een VW Kever uit 1950. De auto is nog origineel (bril-model) met een oud linnen kenteken en gaat met 40 km/u tegen de bergen omhoog. De topsnelheid ligt bij 110 km/u! De prijsuitreiking vindt opnieuw plaats in de grote zaal van het Grand Hotel ‘Huis ter Duin’ onder een uitgebreid diner, waarbij tijdens het uitreiken van de hoofdprijzen de winnende Volvo van Eddy van den Hoorn de zaal komt binnenrijden. Maries Dinaux en Eric van Straaten (Triumph TR6) winnen de toerklasse, gevolgd door Van de Klashorst en Levert (Triumph TR 3B). Titia Westerhof en Anja van der Marel winnen de Coupe des Dames.
