Tulpenrallye 2001

The story of 2001: Kees Stoel trekt zich na de editie van 2000 terug als wedstrijdleider, maar blijft wel de voorzitter van het organisatiecomité. Abe van den Brink neemt het van hem over als wedstrijdleider. Verder gaat André Jetten, Hans Brinkman verder helpen met het uitzetten van de rally. De uitgebreide technische keuring van de deelnemende auto’s wordt op de boulevard in Noordwijk gehouden. Niet alleen op zondag, maar ook vroeg op maandagmorgen voor de start van de rally. Met 2650 km is dit de langste door de AMAC georganiseerde Tulpenrallye tot nu toe. Er wordt al vroeg gestart op maandagmorgen 14 mei en daarom is de karavaan die avond al in Verdun in het Noorden van Frankrijk. Op dinsdag wordt er gereden naar Malbuisson waar de rally voor twee dagen haar tenten opslaat, in de bijzonder klassieke hotels aan de rand van het gelijknamige meer. Op woensdag wordt er een interessante lus door de Vogezen en de Jura gereden met de lunch op 100 km ten Zuiden van Genève (in Bellegarde; het zuidelijkste punt van de route), gevolgd door een tocht door de Vogezen op de donderdag naar St. Avold. Op vrijdag wordt dan via Luxemburg gereden naar de fabriek van Philips Autolampen (één van de sponsors van dit jaar) in Aken, Duitsland. Die avond komt de organisatie erachter dat een groot aantal routeboeken voor de volgende dag niet correct zijn geleverd dor de drukker. De boeken worden ’s nachts opnieuw geproduceerd. Op de zaterdag-route wacht de deelnemers dan een geheime proef: ditmaal uitgezet op de proefbaan van DAF Trucks in Brabant. Tot de belangrijkste favorieten dit jaar behoren Dolk-Rorife, Ebus- Berkhof, Wilssens–De Munck, Zapfe- Bögershausen, Westerman-Roosenboom, van Baaren-Dentzler, Guliker-‘t Hart en vader en zoon Huisman. De Duitser Frans Zapfe gaat na de eerste dag aan de leiding met nul strafpunten. In de daaropvolgende dagen ontwikkelt zich een zeer boeiende strijd waarin Bert Dolk – Robert Rorife op dinsdag de leiding over nemen. Zij voeren in de vier daaropvolgende dagen een spannende strijd en vergroten op vrijdagmiddag in de Ardennen hun voorsprong op beslissende wijze op de andere equipes. De kennis van het terrein in België van de ervaren Rorife speelt hierbij ongetwijfeld een belangrijke rol. Tijdens de prijsuitreiking rijdt Dolk de winnende Volvo de Pické-zaal van “Huis ter Duin” in en bedankt op het podium zijn navigator Robert Rorife. Voor beide deelnemers is dit de tweede keer dat zij de Tulpenrallye op hun naam schrijven. Dolk won de bijzondere editie in 1973 naar Polen, samen met Bob de Jong, en de Belg Rorife won één van de eerste historische edities in 1996. Alle deelnemers zijn het erover eens dat dit de mooiste Tulpenrallye van de laatste jaren was.
